simultaneous seeing video

This project was part of the UCSD Visual Arts MFA program first year class exhibition in December 2010. The piece is a multimedia exploration in various modes of visual perception. Using processing to capture live video, play recorded video and render 3D shapes, the viewer experiences space and time collapsing and expanding. Pictorial images are mapped onto 3D forms, pre-recorded perceptions collide with video of the present moment, passive seeing gives way to active seeing. The geometric forms have a parallax effect, shifting and extruding into space as you move, yet they remain on a flat plane. The double projection on a transparent scrim created a hologram effect, wherein the viewers on either side of the scrim saw their shadows and video images overlap.
